Terahertz Plasmonic Quantum Cascade Lasers: a Comprehensive Physics Study

Generation of terahertz (THz) radiation has been a hot research topic in recent years. Plasmonic quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) are among the most compact and efficient sources to generate THz radiation. In this paper, we comprehensively study plasmonic QCLs designed based on antenna-feedback structure about center frequency 3 THz. By changing geometric cavity using two-dimensional simulation, minimum loss less than 5.9 cm−1 is achieved at lasing frequency. It also possible control orientation output beam either vertically or tilted by geometry antenna design via chirped non-chirped grating scheme. Moreover, characteristics QCL simulated three-level rate equations through which dynamics laser, as well P-I curve, investigated. Also, gain spectra for two laser designs (with gratings) compared each other. The results paper may provide deep insight into designing region.
